OUR THANKSOn behalf of the Board and members of the Junior League of Wilmington, I am pleased thank you for your continued support of the Heart of the Home® Kitchen Tour! Whether your involvement consists of purchasing a ticket, donating to the Tour, designing or building, or opening your beautiful kitchen to be toured, you are supporting our community literacy projects and volunteer training programs. Over the past three years, the Heart of the Home® Kitchen Tour has raised thousands of dollars to help further our mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Thank you for helping us to make a difference! Established in 1918, the Junior League of Wilmington is made up of over 500 women who are committed to making a difference in the Wilmington community. Our members come from all walks of life and represent a variety of races, religions and backgrounds. We welcome new members every fall, so if you or someone you know might be interested in joining us, please contact us at (302) 652-0544. The Junior League of Wilmington has a long history of service to our community. Past projects include Ashland Nature Center, Bridges for Play Handicapped Playground, Child, Inc., Delaware Adolescent Program, Delaware Children’s Theater, Delaware Curative Workshop, Delaware Women’s Conference, Read Aloud Delaware, Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, the Wellness Community, West End Neighborhood House, and the Wilmington Senior Center. We also serve the community by producing women who use their training and experience in community leadership roles. The Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House, Pam Cornforth, state Senator Liane Sorenson, and Director of Delaware Curative, Kathleen Linarducci are just a few of the women who are Sustaining members of the League. Currently, our focus area is improving literacy in our community. Over the past 4 years, we have donated a total of $40,000 and several volunteer hours to the Friends of the Woodlawn Library to assist in the completion of a new state-of-the-art library that contains a Literacy Center and a Children’s Reading Room to serve the Wilmington community. The Library opened last fall with the Children’s Reading Room named in the League’s honor! In addition, we have provided volunteers and books for libraries and Reading in the Home programs at Kuumba Academy, the East Side Charter School and several early childhood education centers. This year, the League is working very closely on a signature project with the East Side Charter School providing funds for an accelerated reading program for the students, a Family Reading Night, and various other volunteer activities. Once again, thank you for participating on the Heart of the Home® Kitchen Tour and your continued support of the Junior League of Wilmington. Sincerely, |
